The Lima Pan-American Games Men’s and Women’s Rugby Sevens began July 26 and concluded July 28 at the Villa Maria del Triunfo cluster in Lima, Peru. The USA Rugby Women’s Sevens team met Canada in the Gold Final losing 24-10 and earning a silver medal. Canada repeated as the Gold Medalist. In the Bronze Final, Colombia came back to tie the match in regulation time against Brazil before winning 29-24 in extra time. On day two the pool matches were completed setting up the knock out rounds on Day 3,  July 28. The Pan American Games are being held from July 26 to August 11, 2019. The USA and Canadian Women topped their Pools with 3-0 records and will face Brazil and Colombia, respectively. Mount St Mary’s Release The Mount Rugby High School High-Performance Academy returned to action this past weekend at the Surfside 7s Tournament in Stone Harbor, NJ. The team looked to continue their strong summer campaign after a 2nd place finish at Collegiate Rugby Championships in the high school division.  Coach Mike Williams and the squad arrived in New Jersey on Friday evening in preparation for the single-day tournament on Saturday. The third leg of the Men’s Northeast Sevens was won by Mystic River Rugby Club with a 26-17 victory over Old Blue 26-17.Fairfield Yankees were in third place with Mystic River 2 in fourth. The Men’s Northeast Sevens Standings have Old Blue in first place with 63 points, Mystic River in second with 60 points, and the Fairfield Yankees in third place with 49 points. It appears that Old Blue and Mystic River will represent the Northeast in the USA Club Sevens Nationals. The Fairfield Yankees would need to win the Saratoga Sevens on July 20 with either Old Blue…

Mexico defeated Jamaica 19-15 to win the 2019 Rugby Americas North Sevens. Both teams qualified to the Repechage tournament next June. The winner of that tournament will qualify for the 2020 Olympics. The Rugby Americas North Sevens consisted of a five round-robin tournament followed by a match for 5th/6th, 3rd/4th, and for 1st/2nd place. Canada Men’s Rugby went undefeated in the 2019 Rugby Americas North Sevens and secured a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They join host Japan, Argentina and the HBSC Sevens Series top four in Fiji, USA, New Zealand, and South Africa. Canada swept Pool A in beating Barbados 47-0, Mexico 49-5, and Bermuda 55-0. They continued in the Quarterfinals beating Guyana 47-5, in the Semifinals over Bermuda 55-0, and in the Finals against Jamaica 40-5. Schuylkill River defeated Old Blue 19-14 after a lightning delay to win the Eastern Men’s Rugby Sevens Super Qualifier, the Philly Sevens and became the first team to qualify for the USA Club Sevens Nationals in Kansas City on August 10-11, 2019. The Philadelphia Rugby Sevens was held at the Greater Valley Sports Complex in Malvern, PA on June 29, 2019. Divisions included Premier and Club Men and Women divisions, Flag, U13, U15 and High School Girls and Boys. The Premier Men’s Division winner earned a spot in the USA Club Sevens Nationals. USA Rugby has named its 2019 U.S. Pan American Games Women’s Sevens team. The Games will take place from July 26 to August 11 with rugby played from July 26-28.  The 12 player roster will feature 10 players who played in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, reaching second in the world rankings, claiming five medals including their first ever Gold. and qualifying for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. USA Rugby’s Head Coach JD Stephenson will lead a team of 12 athletes to the 2019 U.S. Pan American Games Men’s Sevens team. The Games will take place in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11. The PanAm Games come after the USA men qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, reached a No. 2 World Ranking and won seven tournament medals. USA Rugby announced Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri as the location for the 2019 Club 7s National Championship on August 10-11. Qualifying tournaments will begin June 29th in San Francisco and Philadelphia. The Kansas City Blues, who twice were National Runners-Up in this competition, supported the bid along with Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City. They are the fourth Midwest city to host the event since its inception in 1985. Each championship match will be featured live of FloRugby. USA Rugby Release As part of its commitment to deliver a robust and inclusive talent identification and verification system, USA Rugby will present an annual Women’s National Development Invitational Tournament (NDIT) in sevens featuring academy and invitational sides as well as the Collegiate All-Americans (WCAA). The tournament will be hosted at American Rugby Pro Training Center on August 17 and 18 with one spot still remaining for the eighth participating team. Applications may be submitted here by June 21.
