The Toronto Arrows re-signed Shay Kerry for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old lock/back-row (29 in February) is 6’6″ and 270 lbs.
Shay played 422 minutes in 6 matches, starting 5, for the Toronto Arrows in 2023 after arriving mid-season. He had 203 carry meters on 43 carries, 101 ruck arrivals, and 51 tackles (87.9% completion).
Shay was born in England and holds a New Zealand passport. He played both youth soccer and rugby. He began playing soccer in Folkestone with Millwall Football Club with their London junior sides. He moved to New Zealand when he was in elementary school.
Shay attended Taleri College before transferring to Otago Boys High School in 2011. He split his time playing soccer and rugby. He was a first XI center half in soccer, played Otago age group, and for the New Zealand Under 15s Development. He played for the first XV in rugby, played for the Otago Under 16s, earned national selection at the under-17 level, and featured for the National Provincial Championship side Bay of Plenty.
While in New Zealand, he played for the Bay of Plenty. In the 2013-2024 season, he played for the Worcester Warriors and then for the following three seasons with Oyonnax in the Top 14/ProD2 in France. In 2017-2018 he played Narbonne in the French Federale 1 before returning to England to play with Ampthill in the English Championship for 2019-2020.
In 2020-2021 he played with the Jersey Reds in the English Championship before playing with Rouen Normandie in the French Pro D2 for three years.
