Utah Warriors Obtains Spencer Jones

The Utah Warriors obtained Canadian international Spencer Jones in a trade with the New England Free Jacks in exchange for a first-round draft pick in the 2024 MLR Collegiate draft and salary cap considerations. The 26-year-old center is 6’1″, and 215 lbs.

Spencer played 585 minutes in 13 matches, starting 6, and scored 1 try for the New England Free Jacks in 2023. He then played in two matches for Canada against Tonga during the Summer 2023 internationals.

He previously played for the Toronto Arrows from 2019 through 2022. He played 529 minutes in 8 matches, starting 7, and scored 3 tries for the Arrows in 2022. In 2021 he played 515 minutes in 9 matches, starting 5, and scored 8 points (1 conversion and 2 penalty goals).  During the 2019 season, he played in 16 of the team’s 17 games, however, he was injured in 2020 and did not play in the truncated regular season.

Jones was born in Canada but grew up in Cambridge, New Zealand. He attended the University of Waikato from 2016-2018 pursuing a BMSC Degree.

In New Zealand, he played for Hautapu, the Hamilton Old Boys, and was part of the Waikato Development squad. In 2018 he played for the Austin Blacks and Westshore in the British Columbia CDI Premier League.

Jones has earned 8 caps for Canada since making his international debut against the United States on September 4, 2021.
