The Utah Warriors re-signed Angus Maclellan for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 31-year-old tighthead prop is 6’1″ tall and 265 lbs.
Angus played 581 minutes in 16 matches, starting 4, for the Utah Warriors in 2023. He has made the most match appearances in MLR with 78 and was the first player to reach 50 appearances in MLR.
In 2022 he played 533 minutes in 15 matches, starting 5, for the Utah Warriors. He then played with the USA Falcons in the Toyota Challenge in South Africa against the Toyota Cheetahs and Pumas.
Angus played 922 minutes in 17 matches, starting 13, during the 2021 season. During the shortened MLR season due to COVID-19, Angus started all five matches at tighthead prop, playing 356 minutes.
Angus played 1112 minutes in 2019, had 2 tries, carried the ball 49 times for 224 meters, and made 109 tackles. In 2018 Angus played 682 minutes, starting all nine matches and scoring one try.
Maclellan is from Empire, Michigan, and began playing rugby in high school with the Traverse City Alliance. After graduating from St. Francis High School, he attended Davenport University where, as Captain, he led the Panthers to back-to-back D1 AA National Championships in 2010 and 2011.
MacLellan earned All-American honors at Devenport and was also a part of the USA U20’s team in 2011 that competed for the Junior World Cup Championship in Georgia. The following year he captained the team, as it won the World Rugby U20 Trophy in a tournament held at Murray Park, Utah.
In 2014 MacLellan played the USA Selects for the Americas Rugby Championship and was selected for the 2015 Rugby World Cup training squad before injuring his ACL. He made his USA Eagles debut on June 18, 2016, against Italy at San Jose’s Avaya Stadium, and Eagle number 493 played in 7 tests international tests.
Maclellan also played rugby at Trinity College in Dublin in 2013 and for the Linwood Rugby Club in Christchurch, New Zealand. He joined the Utah Warriors in 2018 after playing for the Chicago Lions.
The 2018 year was an important one for Maclellan. He played for the Utah Warriors during the inaugural Major League Rugby season and has been an impact player for the team. He also played in the Americas Rugby Championship for the Eagles, in the Americas Pacific Challenge for the USA Selects, and for the Chicago Lions in the Midwest Premier Division.
