Chicago Hounds Signs George Merrick

The Chicago Hounds signed George Merrick for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 31-year-old lock is 6’7″ and 278 lbs.

George is from Carshalton, London, England, and attended Whitgift School and Carshalton Boys Sports College. He joined the Harlequins Academy in 2011 and in 2012 helped the England Under-20 team win the Six Nations Grand Slam, as well as represented the U20s in the Junior World Cup.

In 2013, he made his senior debut with the Harlequins, appearing in nine matches, starting three, across the Premiership, Heineken Cup, and European Challenge Cup. He would go on to make over 100 appearances for the Harlequins through 2019.

George then moved to France and joined Top 14 club Clermont for the 2019-2020 season, appearing in 11 matches. The following season he moved back to the Premiership, signing with the Worcester Warriors.

For the 2021-20213 seasons, he signed with the Newcastle Falcons. He then returned to France later in 2023 and joined French Pro D2 side Union Sportive Carcassonnaise.

The lock, who has played in over 120 Premiership matches, adds height and experience to the forward pack and is projected as a starter for the Chicago Hounds in 2024.
