The Toronto Arrows re-signed No. 8 / blindside flanker Travis Larsen for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. He is 6’3″ and 242 lbs.
Travis played 722 minutes in 10 matches, starting 9, for the Toronto Arrows in 2023. After the season, Travis earned 2 international caps for Canada, both against Tonga.
He played 542 minutes in 14 matches, starting 5, and scoring 1 try for the Seattle Seawolves in 2022. The team advanced to the MLR Shield Final, losing to Rugby New York.
Travis was signed by San Diego Legion for the 2021 season. He played 244 minutes in 8 matches, starting once, and scoring one try before being traded during the season to the Seattle Seawolves. With Seattle, he played 240 minutes in his 3 starts.
Travis played 226 minutes for Old Glory DC in five matches, starting four, during the truncated MLR season.
Travis played with Austin Elite Rugby along with his brother Josh during the 2019 MLR season. Travis played 1056 minutes, starting 13 of 15 matches, and scored one try. He carried 159 times for 915 meters, which led the team in carrying meters, as well as ball carries, had 2 line breaks, 11 tackle breaks, 9 offloads, and made 157 tackles (96% completion), which also was a team-high. He was third on the team in lineout takes with 14 with only his brother Josh and Ben Mitchell having more. When Travis and Josh played in Austin, it was the first time that they played on the same team.
During the 2020 season, Travis played with Old. Glory DC and Josh played for the New England Free Jacks, pitting the brothers against each other twice during the Eastern Conference MLR season. With the move to San Diego, he will be in the Western Conference.
Travis grew up in Paihia, New Zealand, and most recently lived in Vancouver, British Columbia. Both he and his brother Josh, a lock, were assets in the lineout and around the pitch for Austin Elite Rugby in 2019 and will be for their new teams in 2020.
Travis began playing rugby at age 5 in New Zealand. In 2011 he played with Marist North Harbour and with Massey University that same year. With Massey, he was the Albany Campus Blues Award recipient. The following year he was selected to the New Zealand Universities side, playing in 2 matches.
In 2014, he moved to Italy, playing in the Italian Eccellenza for Lyons Piacenza and then in year two for Petrarca Padova. While with Lyons Piacenza, the team advanced to the Championship and gained promotion to the Eccellenza for the following year. Travis was selected as Man of the Match with Lyons Piacenza for his performance in the Final.
Travis then moved to Canada and played with Meralomas and then with the James Bay Athletic Association. He advanced to the Senior National team for Canada, playing for Canada A in a UK tour in 2016, and then was selected for the Canada National team’s November 2016 tour, but did not gain a cap.
In 2017 Travis played in the Canadian Rugby Championship for the BC Bears winning the MacTier Cup and also for Canada A in the Americas Pacific Challenge. He also played for Canada A in the APC in 2018. He was part of Canada’s extended 2019 Rugby World Cup team and was an alternate for the World Cup.
