Chicago Hounds Re-Signs Julian Dominguez

The Chicago Hounds signed Julian Dominguez to a contract extension for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The electric try-scoring wing is 27 years old, 6’2″, and 220 lbs.

Julian played 901 minutes in 13 starts, carried the ball 76 times for 911 meters gained, and scored six tries. He was credited with one line break on the season, finished the year with 36 broken tackles, and made 61 tackles in his first year in Chicago, five of which were dominant.

In the 2022 season with Austin Gilgronis, he played 938 minutes in 12 starts and scored 6 tries. He ran for 915 meters on 104 carries and beat 28 defenders, His performance earned him Second-Team All-MLR honors. He then played for the New York Athletic Club in the Fall American Rugby Premiership.

Julian scored a team-leading 9 tries in 14 starts, playing 1107 minutes during the 2021 season for NOLA Gold. He capped off the 2021 season with First-Team All-MLR honors. He played 390 minutes in his five starts during the Covid-19-shortened 2020 season and scored two tries. He played with the Rhinos at the World Tens Series in Bermuda in November. He also started at left wing against the Houston SaberCats in the team’s 2021 preseason match.

Julian was born in Buenos Aires and played club rugby for Pucara URBA. He played for two consecutive years for Argentina U20s at the IRB Junior World Championship in 2015 and 2016. He also began playing for Argentina XV in the Americas Pacific Challenge beginning in 2016 and has played for the team recently in 2019 at the Americas Rugby Championship and Nations Cup.

Julian also played with the Argentina Sevens during the 2017-2018 HSBC World Sevens Series. Julian joins NOLA Gold after playing with the Jaguares XV in the Currie Cup First Division.

Dominguez is a powerful ball carrier on the wing and is known throughout the league for his shotgun fend. The winger is still very much on the Argentinian National team radar after playing for Los Pumas U20s, Argentina XV team, Jaguares XV, and with two seasons in the Argentina 7s squad. He’ll continue to make a case for the Pumas #11 jersey with the AGs in the 2022 MLR campaign.
