Old Glory DC signed Tommaso Boni for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old center (31 in January), who is 6’2″ and 230 lbs, made 117 appearances (14 as captain) and scored 75 points with Zebre Rugby in his nine years with the team. Earlier this week it was announced that he would depart Zebre Rugby on 1 November 2023.
Tommaso earned 11 caps with the Italian national team before switching to the USA National Team in 2023 and earning 2 caps against Romania and Georgia.
Tommaso was born in Mestre, Venice, Italy, and played his youth Rugby for Rugby Mogliano. In 2012-2013 he began playing senior rugby with the F.I.R. Academy and then switched to Rugby Mogliano from 2013-2015, playing in 43 matches. He joined Zebre Parma in 2015 and leaves in 2023 after making 117 appearances.
Tommaso has represented Italy’s U17s, U18s, and the U20s (2012 & 2013). In 2014 he played for Emerging Italy and debuted for Italy on Jun 26, 2016, against Canada in Toronto. The last of his 11 tests for Italy (10 starts) was against France on Feb 23, 2018, at Marseille.
Tommaso is US eligible since his grandfather was born in the U.S. This enabled him to switch nations to play for the USA National Team in 2023. He could gain additional caps in the November 2023 internationals in Spain.
