The Houston SaberCats re-signed Gideon Van Wyk for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old number 8 and flanker (23 in March) is 6’3′ and 235 lbs.
Gideon played 667 minutes in 10 matches, starting 8 and scoring 11 tries and was selected Second All MLR team selection.
Gideon played 534 minutes in 13 matches, starting 4, and scored 5 tries for the SaberCats in 2022.
Gideon is from Lichtenberg, North-West, South Africa. He attended Menlopark High School from 2015-2017 and then Paarl Boys High school from 2017-2019 where he played rugby at No.8.
He represented South Africa Under-18s and the South Africa School in 2019. In 2020 and 2021 he played for the University of Free State. He also played for the Free State Cheetahs in the Currie Cup Premier Division and was part of the wider Toyota Cheetahs team.
