The Houston SaberCats signed Ronan Murphy for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old back row (26 in May) is 6’3″ and 235 lbs.
Ronan played 958 minutes in 12 starts and scored 2 tries for the American Raptors during the Super Rugby Americas 2023 season.
Ronan played 220 minutes in 3 starts for the Austin Gilgronis in 2022. He then joined the American Raptors for their Fall 2022 season. He also toured with the USA Falcons to Montevideo, Uruguay in October where the team played Uruguay and Argentina XV.
Ronan is from San Francisco and attended Sacred Heart Cathedral High School from 2012 to his graduation in 2016. He played football and youth rugby with San Francisco Golden Gate.
He attended Saint Mary’s College of California from 2016 to 2020, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business/Marketing. He played rugby for the Gaels and helped the team win the 2017 D1A National Championship. He also played for the USA Under-20s, was a Collegiate All-American, and was a 2020 Rudy Scholz Award Nominee.
Ronan joined the Austin Gilgronis after playing for Trinity College in Dublin.
