The Houston SaberCats re-signed Christian Dyer for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old center/wing (26 in December) is 6’2″ and 215 lbs.
Christian played 1156 minutes in 15 starts and scored 9 tries for the Houston SaberCats in 2023. In 2022 he played 1280 minutes in 16 starts and scored 7 tries for the SaberCats.
Christian is from Sacramento, California, and attended Jesuit High School in Sacramento, playing football and rugby. From 2016-2020, he attended the University of California, Berkeley, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and International Relations. He also played for Cal Varsity Rugby Club, earning All-American honors.
Dyer was selected by Rugby United New York in the supplementary draft but did not join the team in 2021. Instead, he trained at Chula Vista to be selected for the Olympic team in Tokyo. Although this did not materialize, he was capped in rugby sevens for the National team, playing in the Vancouver and Edmonton Sevens.
He was selected for the USA’s tour of England and Ireland in July, where he played in both matches. He now has 11 caps for the Eagles XV (10 starts) with his last test against Portugal in November 2022. He also played in the Toyota Challenge in South Africa against the Toyota Cheetahs and Pumas for the USA Falcons and for the Eagles XV against the French Barbarians. In September 2023, he played for the USA against Stade Toulousain in their 24-21 win.
