Old Glory DC re-signed Uruguayan international Facundo Eduardo Gattas Clavell for the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old hooker/loosehead prop is 5’11” and 255 lbs.
Facundo played 285 minutes in 14 matches with Old Glory DC in 2023. He is currently in France for the 2023 Rugby World Cup and played in his 40th match for Uruguay in the team’s opening pool match in an inspiring match against France. He should add to his match total with another three matches in pool play.
Facundo joined Old Glory during the 2022 season but was injured in his second appearance. When healthy, he also played with Hindu in the URBA Top 14.
Facundo was born in Punta del Este, Uruguay, and began playing rugby for Lobos Rugby Club when he was ten years old. He also has enjoyed playing soccer for some time. He attended the Instituto Uruguayo Argetino, the Universidad Catolica del Uruguay, and is currently studying Business Administration in Argentina.
Facundo played for the Uruguay Under-20s in 2014 and 2015, and with the Uruguay Senior National Team since 2016. He made his debut against Canada on 6 February 2016 at Langford at the Americas Rugby Championship, and played two matches in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
He was also part of the winning 2017 World Rugby Nations Cup and helped Uruguay defeat the USA as the Americas 1 representative at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Facundo played with Hindú Club from 2018-2020 and with Peñarol, Uruguay’s team in the Superliga Americana de Rugby in 2021. He joins Old Glory DC after returning to play with Hindú Rugby Club.
