Houston SaberCats Adds Line Latu

The Houston SaberCats acquired Jerad Line Latu on loan from the American Raptors as injury cover for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old wing/fullback is 5’10” and 230 lbs.

With his inclusion in the starting squad against the Seattle Seawolves in the Playoff Eliminator, he will become the second player to play in Major League Rugby, as well as in Super Rugby Americas, in the same year. Chris Schade was the first, who played for the  American Raptors and for NOLA Gold.

Line was the SRA First Team fullback, representing the  American Raptors in 2023. He also has been selected to the USA Rugby Eagles 2023 greater squad.

Line is from San Mateo, California, and attended San Mateo High School, where he played football as a quarterback, running back, safety, and punter. in 2015 he was the Utility Player of the Year, as well as, the MVP.

He continued his education at the College of San Mateo, earning an Associate’s Degree and captaining the football team in 2018. He then transferred to Eastern Michigan University and was a wide receiver for two years, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Management.

In 2020 he joined the Colorado XO, and in 2021 after going to an LA Giltinis tryout, was involved in a car accident that curtailed his playing rugby for 10 months. When healthy again, he returned to the American Raptors and also played with the USA Falcons in October 2022 against Uruguay XV and Argentina XV in Montevideo, Uruguay.
