Houston SaberCats Adds Kainoa Lloyd

The Houston SaberCats signed Canadian international Kainoa Lloyd for the remainder of the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old center is 5’11”, and 205 lbs.

Kainoa played 239 minutes in 5 matches, starting 3, and scored one try for San Diego Legion in 2022.

He played 396 minutes in 9 matches, starting 3 and scoring 3 tries for the Toronto Arrows in 2019. He then played for the Pacific Pride, Canada’s Development team, and has 18 caps for Canada, starting 15 and scoring 8 tries.

Lloyd is from Mississauga, Ontario, and played for the Mississauga Blues. He attended Streetsville High School and Queens University. He was an OUA All-Star in 2014 and again in 2017.

He played Provincial rugby for the Ontario Blues in several Canadian Rugby Championships.

He has played for Canada A in the Americas Pacific Challenge in both 2017 and 2018. He also played for Canada Selects against the Ontario Arrows in May 2018.

Kainoa made his Senior Men’s National Team debut for Canada against Uruguay at Punte del Este on February 2017 and his last test was against Portugal at Lisbon on November 6, 2021. He has 18 caps with 15 starts and scored 8 tries.

Kainoa played for the national team again against Coventry after resting in the first match against Oxford University in England. The team played World Rugby Repechage matches against Kenya, Germany, and Hong Kong and secured the final spot at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Following the November Repechage/tests, he returned to Toronto and prepare for the 2019 Major League Rugby season with the Toronto Arrows.

Lloyd also played for the Arrows during the 2018 MLR exhibition season.

The last of his 18 caps for Canada was against Portugal in Lisbon on November 6, 2021
