Houston SaberCats Adds Asa Carter

The Houston SaberCats signed Dallas Asa Carter for the remainder of the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The soon to be 24-year-old flanker is 6’4” and 245 lbs.

The Dallas Jackals obtained Asa in 2022 after a trade with Austin Gilgronis. He played 40 minutes in 2 matches for the Gilgronis and 352 minutes in 6 matches, starting 5, for the Jackals.

Austin Gilgronis originally signed Asa Carter for the 2022 Major League Rugby season after being drafted 20th overall in the MLR 2021 Collegiate draft. The 22-year-old flanker (23 in another week) is 6’4″ and 245lbs. He played with the Austin Gilgronis Academy Team, the Outlaws, in Fall 2021, and during the 2022 MLR preseason and was on the matchday squad during the regular season.

Asa is from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and attended Union High School, where he. played football from 2014 to 2017 as a defensive end and tight end.

He played rugby with Tulsa RFC and played USA age-grade rugby with the Under 16s, and with the Under-18s, gaining a European Championship in France in 2017, earning High School All-American honors. In 2019 he played in the USA Under-20s World Rugby U20 Trophy qualifier won by Canada.

Asa attended Arkansas State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
