Chicago Hounds Signs Julian Dominguez

Austin Gilgronis obtained Argentinian winger Julian Dominguez Widmer in a trade with NOLA Gold Rugby, who had acquired his signing rights in the 2022 MLR dispersal draft. The electric try-scoring wing is 25 years old, 6’2″, 220 lbs, and is signed and ready to play.

Julian played 928 minutes in 12 starts and scored 6 tries for Austin Gilgronis in 2022. He then played for New York Athletic Club in the Fall American Rugby Premiership.

Julian scored a team-leading 9 tries in 14 starts, playing 1107 minutes during the 2021 season for NOLA Gold. He played 390 minutes in his five starts during the Covid-19-shortened 2020 season and scored two tries. He played with the Rhinos at the World Tens Series in Bermuda in November. He also started at left wing against the Houston SaberCats in the team’s 2021 preseason match.

Julian was born in Buenos Aires and played club rugby for Pucara URBA. He played for two consecutive years for Argentina U20s at the IRB Junior World Championship in 2015 and 2016. He also began playing for Argentina XV in the Americas Pacific Challenge beginning in 2016 and has played for the team recently in 2019 at the Americas Rugby Championship and Nations Cup.

Julian also played with the Argentina Sevens during the 2017-2018 HSBC World Sevens Series. Julian joins NOLA Gold after playing with the Jaguares XV in the Currie Cup First Division.

Dominguez is a powerful ball carrier on the wing and is known throughout the league for his shotgun fend. The winger is still very much on the Argentinian National team radar after playing for Los Pumas U20s, Argentina XV team, Jaguares XV, and with two seasons in the Argentina 7s squad. He’ll continue to make a case for the Pumas #11 jersey with the AGs in the 2022 MLR campaign.
