American Raptors Face Selknam in Super Rugby Americas Opener

The American Raptors open the Super Rugby Americas season in Santiago, Chile against Selknam Rugby on February 18 at at Estacio Municipal La Pintana at 4 pm MT (6 pm local).

On Twitter, the American Raptors indicated that “We are continuing to work through technical requirements with ESPN Sudamerica to broadcast tomorrow’s match to our North American fans. If everything goes to plan, tomorrow’s match will be available to fans in the U.S. and Canada on ESPN+

“If tomorrow’s match does not end up being streamed, we are confident that the rest of our away matches will be available to fans on the platform.

Teams

Selknam is comprised exclusively of Chilean players with a goal of maintaining continuity with the players in preparation for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

The American Raptors largely are a team of U.S. players with some players from Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Colombia at key positions. The team provides a pathway to develop U.S. talent.

The American Raptors are faced with a huge task playing against a National Team that will play in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. They will not be favored to win against teams from Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay, while their best hope this season is against Cobras Brasil XV and Yacare XV (Paraguay).
