Rugby New York Adds Anthony Parry

Rugby United New York re-signed Anthony Parry as part of the extended squad for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 32-year-old prop is 6’0″ and 250 lbs.

Anthony played 259  minutes in 13 matches in 2021. He then played for New York Athletic Club in 2021 and 2022 in the American Rugby Premiership. He also played with Lugano Rugby Club in Switzerland.

Anthony played all five matches, starting the first two, during the shortened 2020 MLR season due to COVID-19. He also played for the Miami Sun in the inaugural World Tens Series in Bermuda in November.

In 2020, Anthony Parry, Matt Hughston, and Ryan Murphy launched the High-Performance Management Group and have partnered with an American rugby company NoodleBagz, as a sponsor. “The HPM Group has a focused mission of advancing the MLR — and the standard of American rugby, by prioritizing the development of the “entire” athlete. In addition to negotiating contracts and winning endorsements for their clients, the HMP crew offers a suite of holistic resources including diet and training programs, budget and finance advice, mental health check-ins, and even ‘non-rugby professional coaching-reviewing resumes and arranging networking events.”

Anthony played 467 minutes in all 16 regular season matches for RUNY. He had 54 carries for 201 meters and made 78 tackles. He also played in all exhibition season matches in 2018, and then was loaned to NOLA Gold where he played 110 minutes in three matches.

Following the 2019 MLR season, Anthony returned to play with New York Athletic Club in the American Rugby Premiership. He also played for Lugano RFC while in Switzerland in 2019, as well as for Cuernavaca Rugby Union (Mexico).

Anthony attended Salisbury School (CT) from 2005-2009 and played lacrosse and football as a center and linebacker. He then attended Gettysburg College, earning a BA in Political Science and Government. He played rugby as a flanker and also was on the wrestling team.

After graduating from Gettysburg, Anthony played with the Park City Haggis for two seasons from 2014-2015.

In 2016 Anthony played for the Ohio Aviators in the inaugural U.S. professional league. If you ever wondered what is involved in building a professional team in the United States, the responsibilities of the coaches, and the life of professional athletes read “Glimpse at PRO Rugby in the U.S. from Ohio Aviators Coaches & Players.” The context applies to Major League Rugby as well.

Following the PRO Rugby season, he played for New York Athletic Club and has continued with the team since then. In 2018 he played for Rugby United New York during their 2018 exhibition season and scored the team’s first-ever try against the Ontario Arrows. After the three-match season, he was signed by the NOLA Gold for the remainder of the 2018 Major League Rugby Season. During the Fall he played one match for the New England Freejacks against the Ontario Arrows, also scoring the first two tries of the Freejacks. After the match it was back to New York with RUNY, playing in the team’s preseason matches and preparing for the 2019 season.

Currently, in addition to playing professional rugby, he leads operations at Theorem labs and Market Dynamics. He also is a partner with the “High-Performance Management Group, LLC” agency (or, “HPM Group,”), which was launched by partners Matthew Hughston, Anthony Parry, and Ryan Murphy on Friday, July 17th, 2020.
