Seattle Seawolves Adds Freddy Tafuna

The Seattle Seawolves signed Alfred ‘Freddy’ Tafuna for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old prop (31 in June) is 5’11” and 275 lbs.

Freddy has been playing for Seattle Rugby Club and is on the Seawolves’ roster for the 2023 preseason match against the American Raptors. He provides depth on what is likely an Associate Player Contract. In 2021 he was also a member of the Seawolves’ extended squad.

Freddy was born in Oakland, California, and grew up in San Leandro. He played touch rugby with his family and his first organized rugby club experience was with the Hayward Bay Barbarians when he was 17. He attended San Lorenzo High School and played football for the Grizzlies. In his senior year, he was selected to the first Polynesian Bowl on the offensive line.

After high school, he joined the Fort Drum Barracks Rangers in New York during his military service with the U.S. Army. Later, he was relocated to Tacoma, Washington with the Army in Lakewood. While there, he joined the Tacoma Nomads and played with Seattle Rugby Club since 2018 in the British Columbia Premiership league.
