Dallas Jackals Re-Signs Brendan Rams

The Dallas Jackals signed Brendan Rams for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 33-year-old prop/hooker (34 in April) is 6’0″ and 265 lbs.

Brendan played 214 minutes in 8 matches, starting once, for the Dallas Jackals in 2022.

Brendan provided cover for the Gilgronis later in the 2021 season, playing 13 minutes in 2 matches.

Brendan played 84 minutes in four matches as a reserve during the 2020 MLR season. For three of them, he was a reserve at hooker and another at loosehead prop. He also carried the ball 13 times for 58 meters and made 12 tackles (92% tackle percentage). When he wasn’t playing for the Gilgronis, he continued to play with the Austin Blacks.

He played 230 minutes in 11 matches for the MLR side in 2019, carrying 30 times for 133 meters, and made 22 tackles. He also helped the Austin Blacks to the 2019 Men’s Club National Championship.

Brendan is from South Africa and attended St. Albans School and St. Albans College in Pretoria. He played age-grade rugby with the Blue Bulls Rugby Union from the Under-16s through the Senior level, including in the Currie Cup. He also played with the University of Pretoria (Tuks), Pumas Under-21s senior level, and Valke senior level.

In 2014 he moved to Austin, Texas, and played for the Austin Blacks and Austin Huns. He also was signed to the Denver Stampede in 2016, but a preseason knee injury caused him to miss the season. Following the 2017 year with the Huns, he returned to South Africa.
