Chicago Hounds Signs George Thornton

The Chicago Hounds signed George Thornton for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old loosehead prop is 6’3″ and 260 lbs.

George was born in the United Kingdom but was Scotland-eligible through his mother who was born in North Berwick. He played rugby for Moulton College in Northampton as well as for Bishop Burton College from 2016-2017 in the BUCS University leagues and earned a Foundation degree in Sports Coaching. He also played rugby for Market Harborough RUFC in the Midlands 2 East and provincial rugby with the Scottish Exiles.

He played rugby in 2015 for the Scotland Under-18s and in 2016-18, making 17 appearances for the Scotland Under-20s in the Six Nations u20s Championship and the World Rugby U20s Championship in Georgia, where the team finished in fifth place.

After graduating from Bishop Burton College, he spent two years with the Wasps Academy from 2017-2019 and played 4 times in the English Premiership/Anglo-Welsh Cup. While with the Wasps, he was loaned to Ampthill and Nottingham in the English Championship.

From 2019 through 2021 he was contracted with the Glasgow Warriors. He also played Super 6 rugby with the Boroughmuir Bears and the Ayrshire Bulls.

In 2021 he returned to Ampthill in the English Championship before signing with Northern Suburbs in the New South Wales Shute Shield for 2021-2022.
