The Seattle Seawolves signed Shane Barry, a first-round pick in the 2022 MLR Collegiate Draft, for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old flyhalf/wing is 5’11” and 175 lbs.
Shane is from London, England. He comes from a rugby family with his father David, the founder of Ramblin jesters Rugby and one of the owners of the New England Free jacks. Older brothers Niall and Cian, and younger brother Aidan, have played rugby for the Ramblin Jesters in rugby sevens at tournaments worldwide. Shane and Aiden Shane played for the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy U16s that swept the British Columbia U16s in July 2016.
Shane attended the Hampton School in London, and played rugby there, as well as for Middlesex County, and the London Irish Academy. He began playing rugby when he was 5 years old at Felton Fleet and for Reeds Weybridge.
Shane attended UCLA from 2018 through 2022, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, In 2016 he played for the USA Collegiate All-Americans on their Queensland, Australia tour. In 2021 he played with the USA Selects in the Americas Pacific Challenge in Uruguay. He also played with the LAG Rhinos HP in 2021 and trained with the Seattle Seawolves in 2021. In 2022 he played with the USA Falcons against the A-sides of Bazil and Chile in Uruguay.
