The American Raptors signed Uruguayan international Juan Echeverria for the 2023 Super Rugby Americas season. The 31-year-old tighthead/loosehead prop is 5’9″, and 250 lbs.
Juan played for Peñarol Rugby from 2020 to 2022 in Super Liga Americana. Prior to that, was with Austin Elite Rugby in 2020, playing 249 minutes in all five matches, starting 3. In 2019, playing 787 minutes in 13 matches, starting 10, and scoring 1 try. He carried 40 times for 122 meters, made 2 tackle breaks, and 2 offloads, and made 97 tackles. Juan also played for Uruguay during the season, as well as at the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
The tight-head prop has earned 64 caps with the Uruguayan Teros. His debut with the Uruguayan Teros was against Paraguay on April 26, 2014. He played in the 2019 Rugby World Cup and hopes to play again in 2023.
Before playing with the Uruguayan national side, Echeverria played with La Olla Rugby Club in Florida, Uruguay. He then played for Old Christians helping the team to win three consecutive Uruguayan Championships in 2015, 2016, and 2017. He also played in the Nations Cup Championship in both 2017 and 2018, beating Argentina in both Cup finals.
He also played for Uruguay A in the 2018 Americas Pacific Challenge.
Echeverria went to Liceo Brig. Gral. Manuel Oribe also studied at Facultad de Agronomia Udelar.
