American Raptors Signs Patrick Madden

The American Raptors signed Patrick Madden for the 2023 Super Rugby Americas season. The 24-year-old flyhalf is 5’11” and 190 lbs.

Patrick played 104 minutes in 2 matches and scored one try for San Diego Legion in 2022. He then played for the USA Falcons in Montevideo, Uruguay against Uruguay, and Argentina XV.

Patrick played 112 minutes in 5 matches, starting once, for the Legion in 2021. He also played for the USA Select XV at the Americas Pacific Challenge in Uruguay. He also played in the inaugural professional sevens league in the United States, Premier Rugby Sevens with the Loggerheads 7s at Memphis, Tennessee on 9 October 2021.

Patrick is a San Diego native and was the founder and the 2015 president of his high school rugby club at University City High School. He was recognized as a USA High School Rugby All-American in 2016, played with the USA U19s in 2017, and the USA U20s in 2018. He also had the opportunity to travel with USA teams to France, Belgium, England, Dubai, New Zealand, and Canada.

He attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, since 2017 as a Journalism major, and had the opportunity to write articles in 2020 about the San Diego Legion. He will complete his remaining coursework during the 2021 MLR pre-season and officially graduate in Spring 2021.

When he first came to Cal Poly he won the Mark Loane medal, which is given to America’s most accomplished high school rugby player. As a result of this award, he received a full-ride scholarship to travel to Brisbane, Australia, where he was granted the opportunity to play with the highly reputed University of Queensland Rugby Club.”

Patrick was a Cal Poly captain in 2020, as well as a Rudy Scholz Award finalist.
