NOLA Gold Re-Signs George Sharpe

NOLA Gold re-signed George Sharpe for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old hooker (25 in May) is 5’11” and 235 lbs.

George played 94 minutes in 5 matches, starting 1, for NOLA Gold in 2022. He also played for New Orleans Rugby Club and NOLA Gold’s Academy team in 2022.

George is from Easton on the Hill, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom, and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he attended Sanderson High School. He played rugby with the North Carolina All-Star Varsity Team in 2015-2016, as well as the USA Rugby South U19s that year.

Following graduation from Sanderson, he attended Arkansas State University from 2016 – 2021, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management Degree. he played rugby at the university, played in the Varsity Cup in 2016-2017, and was the team’s captain for the 2020-2021 season.

He also played for the USA Rugby South U19s, while at the university in 2016-2017, winning the Rugby Americas North U19s tournament. In 2020 he played for USA Rugby South Panthers senior team against NOLA Gold November 2020.

George played for the USA Select XV in the Americas Pacific Challenge in Montevideo, Uruguay in October 2021. George traveled with the USA Falcons to Uruguay in 2022 and started two matches against Brazil A and Chile A.

George was also named the head coach of New Orleans Rugby Club for the 2023 season.
