The Houston SaberCats re-signed Kullen ‘Pono’ Davis for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old prop is 6’2″ and 295lbs.
Pono played 200 minutes in 8 matches for the Houston SaberCats in 2022. In the Fall he played for the American Raptors.
Pono is from Hilo, Hawaii, and lives in Kailua-Kona. He attended Kamehameha Schools Hawaii from 2011 to 2015 and played varsity football his last two years. In 2014 he was named BIIF Division II Defensive Player of the Year, as well as first-team Offensive line and defensive line.
Pono then went to Tyler Junior College, where he played JUCO football his freshman year, before transferring to Southern Methodist University, where he played in all 38 games. He was a three-time inclusion on the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, made the Frisco Bowl All-Time team, and an invite to the Hula Bowl.
In Spring 2021 he played XFL football with the Sea Lions and then joined the American Raptors to learn rugby. His athleticism was evident as he played in the XV Series against mainly Academy teams, and was included on the American Raptors tour in Uruguay.
