The Houston SaberCats re-signed Kian Meadon for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old flyhalf/fullback is 5’11” and 180 lbs.
Kian split time with the Houston SaberCats and Rugby ATL during the 2022 MLR season. He played 355 minutes in 6 matches, starting 5, and scored 21 points (1 try, 5 conversions, 2 penalty goals) for the SaberCats in 2022. He was loaned to Rugby ATL for 4 weeks in March/April 2022 after trading Marno Redlinghuys to the Houston SaberCats along with Rugby ATL’s 3rd Round 2022 Collegiate draft pick (Via NY and UT), while getting Hoston’s first-round 2022 selection. Kian played 160 minutes in two starts for Rugby ATL in 2022.
The 21-year-old flyhalf/fullback is 5’11” and 175 lbs and will start as a fullback against Old Glory DC on March 20. He started the first match of the season for Houston but has not seen playing time since then.
Kian is from Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa. He attended Midstream College from 2007 to 2017 and then Paarl Boys High School from 2017 to 2019. He also earned professional diplomas in Social Media Marketing, Graphic Design, and Sports and Exercise Nutrition from Shaw Academy (2020-2021)
Kian played with the Cell C Sharks Under-18s and the South Africa Under-18s, and later for the Sharks Under-20s. He played for South Africa Schools in 2019 and 2021 for the South Africa Under-20s in the World Rugby U20s Championship.
