The Houston SaberCats re-signed Dillon Smit for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old scrumhalf is 5’9″ and 175 lbs.
Dillon played 1190 minutes in 16 starts and scored 3 tries for the SaberCats in 2022.
Dillon is from Secunda, South Africa, and attended Tegniese School in Middelburg, before continuing his education at North-West University.
Dillon played youth rugby with the Pumas from 2008-2010, playing with the U16s in Grant Khomo Week in 2008 and with the U18s in Craven Weeks in 2009 and 2010.
He played with the Border Bulldogs from 2012-2013, playing both years for the U21s in the Provincial Championship. In 2014 and 2015 he played in the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup with the Leopards/Leopards XV, and since 2015, Super Rugby with the Lions and Currie Cup since 2016 with the Golden Lions XV.
While playing Varsity Cup rugby with the NWU Pukke, he was named to the Dream Team in 2015.
