The Houston SaberCats re-signed David Coetzer for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old flyhalf (24 in February) is 5’9″ and 185 lbs.
David played 1131 minutes in 15 starts and scored 83 points (3 tries, 28 conversions, 4 penalty goals) for the SaberCats in 2022.
David is from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and attended Selborne College, where he played water polo and rugby.
In 2018 and 2019 he played with the Junior Springboks at the World Rugby U20 Championship, and also played with the Western Province U19s and U21s. In 2020 he played with the Blue Bulls U21 side, which won the South African Rugby U21 championship.
In 2021 he played with the University of Pretoria Tuks Rugby in the Varsity Cup competition.
