American Raptors Signs Christian Ostberg

The American Raptors signed Round Rock, Texas native Christian Ostberg for the 2023 Super Rugby Americas season. The 28-year-old lock/blindside flanker is 6’6″, 255 lbs.

Christian played 580 minutes in 14 matches, starting 7, for Austin Gilgronis in 2022. He played 138 minutes in 6 matches, starting 2, and scored one try for the Gilgronis in 2021 with injuries impacting his playing time.

Christian was a rugby player at Stony Point High School from 2009-2012 and was the captain in 2011 and 2012. He was named the Texas Player of the Year in 2012, as well as an All-District and All-State selection in both 2011 and 2012. He was also a member of the Texas High-Performance Team from 2010-2012. The team played in the Rocky Mountain Challenge and he was named to the All-Tournament Team in 2010 and 2011. In 2013 he played all five games with the USA U20s in the Junior World Championship in France.

Christian attended Life University from 2012-2014, majoring in Business Administration and Management, and was a member of the rugby team.

He then left for Italy and spent six months with Amatori Rugby Alghero in Alghero, Sardinia from August 2014 to January 2015. He then moved to Thame, England for four months and played with Chinnor Rugby Football Club in English RFU’s National League 2 South and assisted in Chinnor’s 6th-place finish in a 16-team league.  Then it was on to France to play for Stade Aurillacois for almost five years in the French Rugby Pro D2. Since March 2020, he has returned home to train and play with the Austin Gilgroins in the 2021 MLR season.

Christian also played for the USA Selects in the 2016 Americas Pacific Challenge.
