Houston SaberCats Signs Nathan Den Hoedt

The Houston SaberCats signed Nathan den Hoedt or “Moose” as he sometimes is called, for the 2023 Major League Rugby season after the team obtained his signing rights from the Chicago Hounds in exchange for salary cap considerations. Chicago had selected him in the 022 MLR dispersal draft. The 25-year-old lock (26 in June) is 6’6″ and 250 lbs.

Nathan played 841 minutes in 16 starts and scored one try for the LA Giltinis in  2022.  In 2021 he played 1107 minutes in 16 matches, starting 13, and scored one try.

Nathan is from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and attended Brisbane State High School. He played rugby with Brisbane City and then with the NSW Country Eagles in the National Rugby Championship, and was part of the Emerging NSW Waratahs squad. He also played with Sunnybank, working his way up to the Premiers. In 2019-2020 he played with Randwich Rugby Club and was the team’s captain in the Shute Shield.
