Rugby ATL re-signed John-Roy Jenkinson for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 31-year-old tighthead prop (32 in March) is 5’10” and 270 lbs.
John-Roy played 568 minutes in 11 matches, starting 10, for the Ratlers in 2022.
John-Roy is from Worcester, South Africa. He attended Glenwood High school and then North-West University, where he attended from 2010-2013, earning a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Human Resources Management, He also attended there from 2014-2016 for a post-graduate degree in Business Administration and Management. He played rugby in the 2011 and 2012 Varsity Cup, and in 2015 was on the Varsity Cup Dream Team.
He played age-grade youth rugby with the Sharks from 2004-2009, and in 2011 represented South Africa U20s at the 2011 Junior World Championship.
In 2010 he played with the Leopards U19s and then the U21s in the Provincial Championship. In 2011 he played Currie Cup with the Leopards through 2016. He then moved to the Blue Bulls from 2016-2018, before playing with the Munakata Sanix Blues from 2018-2019. In 2020-2021 he played for the Griquas.
