The Utah Warriors re-signed USA international Calvin Whiting for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 27-year-old center is 6’1″ and 225 lbs.
Calvin played 1065 minutes in 15 starts and scored 56 points (1 try, 12 conversions, 9 penalty goals) for the Utah Warriors in 2022.
He played 1131 minutes in 15 matches, starting 14, and scored 42 points from 15 conversions and 4 penalty goals for the Warriors in 2021.
Calvin started all five matches, playing 387 minutes during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 MLR season. Two matches each were at the inside and outside the center, with one on the left wing. He was signed for the 2019 season but did not play during the regular season.
Calvin is from Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. He attended Fourways High School and then Lone Peak High School in Utah and played rugby for United High School Rugby Club. He was a three-time High School All-American and the team captain. United also won a National Championship.
He attended Brigham Young University from 2015-2019, as a Management major. He was an All-American in 2015, won the National Title in 2015, and was an All-American Honorable Mention in 2017.
On February 25, 2017, he made his debut for the USA Rugby men’s national team against Chile in the Americas Rugby Championship. He was selected for the July 2021 internationals and played against England on July 4th at Twickenham and against Ireland at Dublin on July 10. He has started twice for the three international tests he has played.
During the Summer of 2019, he played at the USA Club 7s Nationals for Park City Haggis. He also won two National 7s Championships with Rugby Utah.
Calvin has had several years of high-performance rugby matches under his belt and is a key contributor to the Utah Warriors.
