San Diego Legion re-signed Dan Pryor for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 34-year-old back-row (35 in April) is 6’3″ and 230 lbs. Dan”s younger brother Kara, plays with Rugby New York.
After joining the Legion toward the end of the 2021 season, Dan played 97 minutes in two starts. His contributions increased in 2022, playing 863 minutes in 14 matches, starting 12 and scoring one try.
Dan is from Auckland, New Zealand, and attended Auckland Grammar School before going to Auckland University of Technology where he majored in Business and Advertising. He played rugby with Grammar TEC and won the Gallaher Shield in 2013. He also played with the Auckland Academy before playing club rugby with Marist in the Northern club rugby competition in 2014.
Dan played his senior rugby in the ITM Cup (later Mitre 10 Cup) for Northland from 2010-2017. He made one Super Rugby appearance for the Blues in 2011 against the Melbourne Rebels. That was just the beginning of his Super Rugby career. He made 34 appearances for the Highlanders from 2015-2018 and another 11 for the Sunwolves in 2019. He also played for Munakata Spinx Blues in the Japanese Top league from 2018-2021.
He also played for the Mãori All Blacks in the 2014 Japan tour, playing against japan in Kobe and in Tokyo. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Albie Pryor, who also played previously for the team.
