Toronto Arrows Re-Signs Avery Oitomen

The Toronto Arrows signed Avery Oitomen for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old wing is 6’3″, 200 lbs, and returns to the Arrows after injuries and his education in Wales impacted his availability.

In 2019 Avery played in 11 matches (eight starts), and had 453 carry meters on 39 carries, 39 tackles (three dominant), six tackle breaks, five linebreaks, and two offloads, as well as six tries, representing the second-highest for the team in 2019, trailing only captain Dan Moor with seven.

Avery is from Mississauga, Ontario, and attended Lorne Park High School. He played rugby with the team beginning at age 13 and also played football.

Avery progressed through Ontario age grade playing on the Under-16s in 2014 and the Under-19s in 2016. He also played age-grade rugby for Canada, attending U17s in 2016, the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017, and the Under-19s in 2018.

In 2016 he played in the NAI7s with the Oakville Crusaders Upright Rugby Roques. During the 2018-19 season, he played for Cardiff Metropolitan University and with the Maple Leafs 7s on the South America 7s tour.

Avery is a developing talent and will see MLR playing time, especially with several Canada Senior Men’s players involved with Americas Rugby Championship play.
