San Diego Legion Signs Blair Cowan

San Diego Legion signed Blair Cowan for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 36-year-old flanker/No. 8 (37 in April) is 6’2″ and 235 lbs.

Blair is from Upper Hutt, New Zealand, and attended Saint Patrick’s College, Silverstream. He is also Scotland-qualified through his mother, who was born in Blairmore, which is near Dunoon in Argyll.

Blair played rugby in the United Kingdom from 2009 through 2021. He made 53 appearances for the Cornish Pirates between 2009 and 2012. During the 2012-2013 season, he played for the Worcester Warriors, making 21 appearances.  He made 2 appearances for the Saracens in 2018 and from 2013 through 2021 he made 153 appearances for the London Irish.

In 2022 he signed with the Toyko Black Rams, making 6 appearances.

Blair also played for Scotland where he made his debut against the United States at Houston on June 7, 2014.  The last of his 18 tests (15 starts) came against Ireland at Lansdowne Road, Dublin on December 5, 2020. Two of his matches were at the Rugby World Cup 2015. He also scored two tries in international tests.
