Rugby ATL Re-Signs Ryan Rees

Rugby ATL re-signed Ryan Rees for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old scrumhalf is 5’10” and 170 lbs.

Ryan played 538 minutes in 13 matches, starting 7, for the Ratlers in 2022. He also made 413 passes and 77 tackles. He was selected for the USA Falcons Toyota Challenge matches in Bloemfontein, South Africa this October and started against the Pumas.

Ryan played 591 minutes in 15 matches, starting 6, and scored one try for the Ratlers in 2021. He was included in the USA National Team’s wider European touring squad to England and Ireland but remains uncapped. In Fall, he played for Life Men in the American Rugby Premiership.

Ryan is from Austin, Texas, and attended Westlake High School. He played rugby while in high school and was selected to the 2015 Texas High-Performance U18s, and helped the team win the 2015 and 2016 Texas State Rugby Championship. In 2015 he was also selected as Back of the Year, while the 2016 win gained him Eagle Impact Rugby Academy recognition as the Player of the Week.

Ryan attended Life University from 2016 until his graduation in 2020. He played rugby for four years and helped the team win back-to-back D1A National Championships in 2018 and 2019. He was the 2019 MVP of the Final and was selected to the Collegiate All-American 1st Team in 2019. He also played for the USA U20s in the World Rugby Trophy qualifier. In 2020 he was a Mid-South All-Conference selection and was a Rudy Scholtz Award Finalist.

In the Fall of 2020, he played rugby for the Life Men’s Club team. He also played club sevens rugby in the Summer with the Austin Huns.
