Old Glory DC re-signed Peni Lasaqa for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old wing is 5’8″ and 180 lbs.
Peni played 1069 minutes in 14 matches, starting 13, and scored 9 tries in 2022 for Old Glory DC. He carried 89 times for 1,057 meters.
He joined Old Glory in 2022 after playing in the 2021 National Provincial Championship with Bay of Plenty, where he made three appearances and scored two tries.
Peni, who is from Tauranga, New Zealand, attended St Kentigern College, where he ran the 100 meters in track, as well as played rugby. He played in the Honours Board World School Sevens in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In the latter, he represented New Zealand Schools Barbarians.
In 2019 he was part of the New Zealand Sevens Development team and was included in a tour to Japan. In 2020 he was part of the New Zealand Under 20s extended training group. In 2019 he played in the Jock Hobbs U19 Memorial Tournament for Bay of Plenty.
