Old Glory DC Doug Fraser 2023 Profile

Old Glory DC re-signed Canada international Doug Fraser for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old wing/center is 5’8″ and 205 lbs.

Doug played in 13 matches in 2022, carrying the ball for 686 meters. He has 31 MLR caps, 27 with Old Glory, who he has played with since 2020. He also has scored 8 tries with the team.

In 2021 Doug played 597 minutes in 9 starts and scored 2 tries. carried for 431 meters of 43 ball carries, and accounted for 17 tackles breaks.

In Old Glory DC’s inaugural season, Doug dazzled with side steps and sudden acceleration down the sidelines. He accumulated 15 points during the truncated 2020 season and scored the team’s first-ever try in week one in New Orleans against NOLA Gold. He played 302 minutes at wing in five matches, starting five, and had 25 ball carries for 237 meters.

During 2019, he played 226 minutes in 4 matches, carried 21 times for 182 meters, made 2 line breaks, 7 passes, and made 22 tackles for Austin Elite Rugby (Now Austin Gilgronis).

Doug is from Ladysmith, British Columbia, and attended Ladysmith Secondary School from 2005-2010. He then attended the University of Victoria from 2010-2015, earning a BA in History with a focus on British Columbia and Canadian History and a Minor in Political Science.

While playing for UVics for five years, the team won two national championships. He was an outstanding collegiate athlete and was awarded the Canadian University 7s Finals MVP, and was named to the Canadian University 7s Dream Team in 2015.

Doug has also played representative rugby with the BC Bears in the Canadian Rugby Championship and against England Counties in 2016. He also played for Vancouver Island and North Vancouver Island representative sides. He also played club rugby for the Castaway Wanderers.

Doug also has been part of Rugby Canada’s Centralized Athlete Men’s 15s Program at the Al Charron Rugby Canada National Training Centre. He made his debut for Canada against Brazil in the Americas Rugby Championship on February 17, 2018. He then played against Argentina XV, and Chile before playing against Russia in June.

In the Fall he played for Canada Selects in the Americas Pacific Challenge and was just selected for the South American portion of the 2019 ARC for Canada against Uruguay and Brazil.

The last of his 4 caps (3 starts) for Canada was against Chile at Langford on Feb 22, 2019, in the Americas Rugby championship.

What may not be known to many is that he was employed as a forest firefighter from 2013-2016.
