Old Glory DC re-signed Tafeaga Junior Sa’u for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 35/year-old center/wing (36 in April) is 5’9″ and 215 lbs.
Junior played in 15 matches, starting 11, carried for 950 meters, and scored 9 tries, which was tied for 4th place in MLR in 2022. After the season, he spent several weeks playing for English rugby league side Keighley Cougars.
Junior is from Õtāhuhu, Auckland, New Zealand and his parents are Samoan. He played junior football with Logan Brothers in Queensland before joining the Canberra Raiders in the Canberra Premier League in 2006.
From 2008-2012 he played with the Newcastle Storm, and was part of the Samoa Training squad for the 2008 Rugby World League Cup, but was not included on the final squad. In 2009 he played with the New Zealand Kiwis Four Nations squad, making his debut against Tonga.
In 2010, he was selected to play for New Zealand in the ANZAC Test, a League match between Australia and New Zealand, and again was selected to the New Zealand squad for the 2010 Four Nations.
In 2013, Sa’u was selected to play for Samoa in the Pacific Rugby League International Test against Tonga and was called up to play in the Rugby League World Cup for Samoa. He also played for the Melbourne Storm.
From 2014-2019 he played with the Salford Red Devils in the Super League before being loaned in 2019 to Wakefield Trinity. From 2019-2021 he played with the Leigh Centurions and will play rugby union professionally with Old Glory DC in 2022.
