Old Glory DC Stan South 2023 Profile

Old Glory DC re-signed Stan South for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old lock is 6’6” and 260 lbs.

Stan played 13 matches during the 2022 MLR season. He now has 22 caps for Old Glory DC since joining the team in 2021. He also was the 8th leading tackler in MLR with 200.

During the 2021 season, Stan played 712 minutes in 10 matches (starting 9 times), carried for 319 meters over 65 ball carries, arrived at 241 rucks, completed 81 successful tackles, and earned 47 lineout takes over the season. During the Fall 2021 season, Stan was a forwards coach for Penn State Men’s Rugby Club.

Stan was born in Southampton, England. He attended John McGlashan College before graduating from Whitgift School. His rugby prowess resulted in being selected for England’s U18s and then the U20s, which won the World Rugby U20s Champions Cup in 2016.

He played in the Harlequins Academy in 2014-2015 and made his professional debut with the senior side against Gloucester in the Anglo-Welsh Cup in February 2015. During the 2016-17 season, he made nine appearances in matches involving the English Premiership, European Rugby Challenge, and the Anglo-Welsh Cup. He also was selected to play against the Maori All Blacks in the team’s 150th Anniversary Challenge match.

After playing 30 times with the Harlequins 1st team, he signed with Coventry Rugby Club but was released from the contract to join the Exeter Chiefs for the 2018/19 season. In 2020 he played briefly with Edinburgh and then with Brive in France.
