The Utah Warriors obtained Jeffrey Steele in a trade with Austin Gilgronis for the remainder of the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old tighthead prop is 6’0″ and 250 lbs.
Jeff Steele signed with Austin Gilgronis after an invitation to train with the team during the preseason at Chula Vista. His performance there, as well as with the AG Outlaws Academy program since Fall 2021, earned a contract with the AGs for the 2022 season and illustrates the success of the pathway from the Outlaws to the MLR team.
The Houston SaberCats added Jeffrey Steele ahead of their 2021 Major League Rugby match in New York. The 28-year-old plays all positions in the front row but is primarily a loosehead prop. He is 6’0″ and 260 lbs. He played the final two matches of the 2021 season for the Sabercats before joining the AG Outlaws Academy.
Jeff played with Rugby HTX, playing all positions in the front row but is primarily a loosehead prop. He was a call-up for the Houston SaberCats during the 2021 season, playing 50 minutes in two matches with the SaberCats. Following the conclusion of the season, he joined the Austin Gilgronis Academy Outlaws, and also attended a nine-week USA High-Performance Pathway Camp in Glendale, Colorado.
jeff is from Chicago, Illinois, and attended J.Sterling Morton High School, graduating in 2011. His senior year, in 2011, the rugby team won the Illinois State Championship. He also played on the Illinois Tornadoes All-Star Rugby team which won the Elk Hart Tournament that year.
He attended Western Illinois University from 2012-2017, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.
He played prop for the Chicago Lions in 2017-2019 and earned Man of the Match honors in the D1 Club Semifinals match against Life University in 2019. Jeff also coached the Chicago Lions High School team for three years and has ambitions of coaching further in his rugby career.
