Dallas Jackals Obtains Lui Sitama

The Dallas Jackals obtained Lui Sitama, along with Jalen Tatum, from Rugby ATL for the remainder of the 2022 Major League Rugby season in exchange for salary cap space for Rugby ATL for 2022 and conditional cap space for 2023.

Lui joined Rugby ATL from the Austin Gilgronis in 2021 and re-signed with Atlanta for 2022. He was the 4th player selected in the 2020 Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft and in the 2021 season played 22 minutes in one match with Austin Gilgronis before finishing the season with Rugby ATL where he did not see any regular-season action. The 25-year-old center is 5’9″ and 225 lbs.

Lui played with Pathway 404 in the Fall 2021, Rugby ATL’s Academy team, and re-joined the MLR squad after the third week of the 2022 season.

Lui was born in Moamoa, Upolu, Samoa, but regards Lacey, Washington as his hometown. He attended River Ridge High School, graduating in 2015, and was on the track and field team, in the shot put discus, and Javelin. He played rugby for the Budd Bay Barbarians and his performance gained him an invitation to the USA Rugby U20 Camp in 2015 and 2016.

Lui attended American International College from 2015-to 2020 graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Digital of Arts with a minor in Communications. He was involved in both rugby 15s and 7s and helped the team achieve a ranking of 2nd nationally in rugby sevens in 2019. He also was named the top back at the Nationals that year.

Lui also played club 7s as part of the Washington Athletic Club team and helped the team win the 2019 National Championship.
