Rugby New York hosts NOLA Gold on Sunday, May 1 at 3 pm ET at JFK Stadium in Hoboken, New Jersey. Tickets are available and the match will be streamed internationally on The Rugby Network.
In the first meeting between the teams on March 19 at the Gold Mine, Rugby New York beat NOLA Gold 30-19.
Preceding the match at noon is Rugby New York Foundry vs the Toronto Arrows Senior Academy side.
Rugby New York
New York enters the weekend in third place in the Eastern Conference with the Toronto Arrows nipping at their heels. New York has a game in hand over the Arrows, but a win is needed to keep some distance between the teams.
Head Coach Marty Veale has made three changes in the starters and one in the reserves. Sak Taulaufu and Dylan Fawsit are at loosehead prop and hooker, respectively, with Nick Civetta at lock. Joe Basser also re-joins the matchday squad as a reserve back row.
New York has two of the top MLR players in carrying meters with Ed Fidow in 3rd place with 915 meters and Fasi Fuatai in 9th place with 815. Ed Fidow is also one of the leading try scorers with 6 tries.
NOLA Gold
NOLA Gold has been a dangerous team on the attack and Rugby New York will be wary.
Head Coach Kane Thompson, who received a two-year contract extension through 2024 earlier in the week, made one change in the starters and three in the reserves since last week’s match. Dino Waldren returns at tighthead with Brian Nault rotating to the reserves. Pat O’Toole, Kavika Peniata, and jack Webster joined the squad as reserves.
JP Du Plessis was a week 12 All-MLR selection.
