The New England Free Jacks added Ewan Brumwell as a game day emergency replacement for Holden Yungert ahead of the April 24, 2022 match against Rugby New York. The 29-year-old Free Jacks Strength and Conditioning Coach is 6’0″ and 200lbs.
Ewan joined the Free Jacks last May and he returned to New Zealand after the season as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Otago Rugby.
Ewan was born in San Diego, California, and grew up in Scotland. He attended Portlethen Academy in 2011, EIT Hawke’s Bay in 2013, and then attended Otago Polytechnic College from 2014-2015, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Physical Activity, Health, and Wellness. He has since added a Graduate Diploma in Applied Science from Otago Polytechnic College, as well.
Ewan played youth rugby with Mackie and played with the Caledonia U16s and U18s. He also had a trial with Scotland’s National U18s.
He played senior club rugby with Aberdeen Grammar for departing for Australia to play with the Manly Marlins in the Shute Shield. He played in the New Zealand Premier Club competition for the Harbour Hawks and also rugby XVs and 7s with Otago Rugby. With the latter, he has been the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach since 2015 and was an Assistant S&C coach with New Zealand Schools in 2017 and 2018, as well as had a similar position with the Super Rugby Highlanders.
