The New England Free Jacks added Shane Fata for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 19-year-old center/flyhalf (20 in June) is 5’9″, 195 lbs, and has dual Ireland/USA citizenship as his father is from New Jersey.
Shane played youth rugby for Athy Rugby Club until he was 11 years old in Athy, County Kildare, Ireland, and then for Naas Rugby Football Club until he was 14 while playing schoolboy rugby for Newbridge College from age 13 through 18.
While at Newbridge College, the rugby team won the Leinster Schools Senior Cup, as well as the junior league.
Shane joins the Free jacks after playing for the senior Naas RFC team in the All Ireland League Divison 1B.
Shane also played for the 2019 Boys High School All-Americans U18s against Canada and attended the USA Rugby High-Performance Pathway Winter Camp in 2021 as an Under-20.
