Houston SaberCats Adds Alec McDonnell

The Houston SaberCats signed Alec McDonnell for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old prop is 5’10” and 260 lbs. Alec is primarily a loosehead prop but can play anywhere in the front row.

Alex played for Rugby HTX for 2020-22, and in 2020 played 12 minutes in one match for Rugby United New York.

Alec is from Weldon Spring, Missouri, and attended Francis Howell High School. He attended Lindenwood University from 2015-to 2019, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Administration. He played D1A Rugby at Lindenwood and was selected to the Collegiate All-American Second-Team for 2018-2019. He also played with the Collegiate All-Americans in their 23-22 win over Canadas in July.

Alec joined the Rugby United New York training squad ahead of the 2020 season and his performance resulted in an MLR contract. Today he should see playing time in Orchard Park, NY in a team scrimmage against the Toronto Arrows at the Buffalo Bills Indoor facility.
