San Diego Legion signed Dillon Shotwell for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old hooker (24 in February) is 5’11” and 240 lbs.
Dillon is from Kingwood, Texas, and attended Kingwood High School from 2013 to 2016, where he played football and rugby. He attended Texas State University from 2016 to 2017, spent a semester at Lone State College in 2017, and completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at Sam Houston State University where he attended from 2018-2020.
In 2018 he played rugby for the USA Under-20s and also with Sam Houston State, where he was also the Vice-president of the club.
He was drafted by the Houston SaberCats in the third round of the 2021 MLR Collegiate Draft and played with Rugby HTX, the team’s academy team in Fall 2021. He spent two weeks at Chula Vista Elite Training Center on a trial with San Diego Legion and played last Friday in a scrimmage against Austin Gilgronis. His performance at the camp and in the scrimmage led to his signing with the Legion for 2022.
