Rugby New York Signs Ed Fidow

Rugby New York signed Samoan international Teofilo ‘Ed’ Fidow for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old wing is 6’2″ and 210 lbs.

Ed was born in Moto’otua, Samoa. He’s played rugby in Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, France, England, and comes to the United States for 2022.

Ed played rugby at an early age with  Papatoetoe RFC in the Auckland Gallagher Shield and was selected for the Auckland Sevens. He continued with rugby sevens, representing Samoa from 2015-2017 in the World Rugby Sevens Series. He made 46 appearances, scoring 21 tries, before resuming rugby XVs.

In 2017 he moved to Australia, playing with Wests Rugby in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition, as well as for Brisbane City in the National Rugby Championship. Later that year, he signed with the French Top 14 team, Bordeaux Beagles as a medical joker. He would continue to live in France, signing with Frenc Pro D2 club, Provence Rugby for 2018-2019.

In 2018 Ed was selected for the Samoa National XVs team for the Pacific Nations Cup, making his debut against Fiji at Suva on June 9. He played at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, starting all 4 matches. The last of his 14 tests, with 12 starts, was against Tonga at Hamilton, New Zealand on July 17, 2021. He is a prolific try-scorer with 12 in international tests.

Ed moved to England between 2019-2021, playing for the Worcester Warriors in the English Premiership.

He also has played club rugby in New Zealand with Waitemata Rugby Club.
