Utah Warriors Signs Caleb Makene

The Utah Warriors signed Caleb Makene for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old fullback (26 in April) is 5’9″ and 200lbs.

Caleb is from Napier, New Zealand, He attended Napier Boys’ High School and was the rugby team’s captain in 2014. He also attended Lincoln University, majoring in Environmental Planning and Management.

He played with the New Zealand U20s at the 2016 Oceania Rugby Championship and earned 4 caps. He also played for Tasman Mako in the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup, Canterbury in 2017-2018, the Super Rugby Crusaders in 2018, and the Maori All Blacks.

Since 2019 he has played with Hawke’s Bay in the Mitre 10 Cup, and now the Bunnings National Provincial Championship. The Magpies would win the 2020 Ranfurly Shield. In 2021 he also played Super Rugby with the Highlanders

He began his career in Super Rugby with the Crusaders, before joining the Hawkes Bay Magpies in Mitre 10, helping them to a Championship and the 2020 Ranfurly Shield. He would later go on to earn a contract with the Highlanders in Super Rugby for 2021. Caleb has earned 4 caps for the New Zealand U20 squad and was a member of the Maori All Blacks in 2018.
